Why Support Black Owned Businesses?

Buying Black is a simple way to do a fraction of your part in fighting systemic oppression.

Today, there exists a wage gap between Black & White individuals, one that has been in place systematically since the late 1870’s. That was when almost every government-led effort to ensure the liberties of Black individuals post-emancipation was destroyed, and shortly after Jim Crow Laws came into existence. Even since the ‘end’ of Jim Crow in the late 1960’s, more efforts have been made to keep money out of underfunded, predominantly Black neighborhoods than in them. These attitudes and practices create barriers within the same societal structures that remain as the backbone of our society today — hence the existence of Institutional/Structural/Systemic Racism. Supporting Black Owned Business is one way to harmlessly, strategically redistribute wealth with means of gradually undoing the systemic oppression of our People.

Buying from small businesses does not stop with a purchase: If you find a business or product you like, use it faithfully, boost their socials, tell friends and family!
